fix: Security upgrade Docker image from Node.js 20 to 24 - #3518
The Docker image is based on node:20.19.0-alpine3.20. Node.js 20 reached its end-of-life on 2026-04-30 and Alpine Linux 3.20 on 2026-04-01, so neither receives security fixes anymore. For example, the Node.js security release of 2026-10-21 fixes CVE-2026-111497 and other vulnerabilities only in Node.js 22, 24 and 26. For the linux/amd64 base image, Docker Scout reports 2 critical and 32 high vulnerabilities, not counting those of Node.js itself.
Approach
Update both stages of the Dockerfile to node:24.22.2-alpine, the latest Node.js 24 release. Node.js 24 is the newest LTS version that Parse Dashboard supports and is supported until 2028-04-30.
Use a tag without the Alpine version. It refers to the newest Alpine version for that Node.js version, currently Alpine 3.24. A tag with the Alpine version gets no new Node.js versions once Docker stops publishing images for that Alpine version, as happened with Alpine 3.20.
Add the docker ecosystem to Dependabot, so that it proposes Node.js minor and patch updates; major updates are ignored. These pull requests use the commit type fix, so that merging one publishes an updated image.
Document in the README that the Node.js major version of the Docker image is updated with every Parse Dashboard major release.
Parse Dashboard already supports Node.js 24 in engines and tests it in CI, so this doesn't change the supported Node.js versions.
For the new linux/amd64 base image, Docker Scout reports no critical and 6 high vulnerabilities, all in packages bundled with npm, which Parse Dashboard doesn't use at runtime.
Verified locally on an arm64 host with Docker 29.9.1:
The image builds for linux/arm64 and linux/amd64.
Both images start, serve the login page and bundles, reject a wrong password, log in and return the dashboard configuration, with no errors in the log. The server runs as user node on Node.js v24.22.2 with the architecture of the image.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Chores
Updated the Node.js version used to build and run the Docker image to 24.22.2.
Added daily checks for Docker dependency updates, excluding major Node.js version updates.
Documentation
Clarified that each major Dashboard release updates the image to a supported Node.js LTS version.
Documented that minor and patch updates are made between major releases, except after the Node.js version reaches end of life.

Tip
Keep pull requests small. Large PRs will be rejected. Break complex features into smaller, incremental PRs.
Use Test Driven Development. Write failing tests before implementing functionality. Ensure tests pass.
Group code into logical blocks. Add a short comment before each block to explain its purpose.
We offer conceptual guidance. Coding is up to you. PRs must be merge-ready for human review.
Our review focuses on concept, not quality. PRs with code issues will be rejected. Use an AI agent.
Human review time is precious. Avoid review ping-pong. Inspect and test your AI-generated code.
Note
Please respond to review comments from AI agents just like you would to comments from a human reviewer. Let the reviewer resolve their own comments, unless they have reviewed and accepted your commit, or agreed with your explanation for why the feedback was incorrect.
Caution
Pull requests must be written using an AI agent with human supervision. Pull requests written entirely by a human will likely be rejected, because of lower code quality, higher review effort and the higher risk of introducing bugs. Please note that AI review comments on this pull request alone do not satisfy this requirement. Our CI and AI review are safeguards, not development tools. If many issues are flagged, rethink your development approach. Invest more effort in planning and design rather than using review cycles to fix low-quality code.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #3517 is the only active directly linked issue. Its coding requirements are: (1) update both Dockerfile stages to a supported Node.js LTS version and a supported Alpine version; (2) add the docker ecosystem to Dependabot, without proposing unsupported Node.js versions. Requirement 1 is met. At the reviewed head, the build stage (FROM --platform=${BUILDPLATFORM:-linux} node:24.22.2-alpine AS build) and the release stage (FROM node:24.22.2-alpine AS release) both use Node.js 24. Node.js 24 is an LTS line that Parse Dashboard already lists in engines. The unversioned Alpine tag resolves to the current Alpine release, which the PR states is Alpine 3.24. That resolution comes from the Docker Hub tag, not from this repository, so it is not verified here. It matches the Alpine 3.24 example in #3517. Requirement 2 is met. .github/dependabot.yml at head adds a docker ecosystem entry for /, checked daily. It ignores version-update:semver-major for dependency node, so Node.js major versions outside 24 are not proposed. The fix commit prefix is set. #3517 requires no automated test changes and no non-coding work counts toward this verdict. The PR's local verification statements are not coding requirements of the issue.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The whole-PR evidence lists three changed files, and each one serves #3517. (a) Dockerfile: the reported change is +2/-2 and changes only the two FROM lines to node:24.22.2-alpine. The head file also contains multi-architecture build logic (BUILDPLATFORM, TARGETARCH, npm ci --omit=dev). The reported line count implies that logic predates this PR. The base blob was not read to confirm this, so the claim rests on the reported diff size. (b) .github/dependabot.yml: the new docker entry (+13 lines) implements the Dependabot requirement of #3517. (c) README.md: the reported +2 lines document that the Node.js major version changes only with a Parse Dashboard major release. This documents the policy that the Dependabot ignore rule enforces, so it supports the objective. The README diff could not be read, and the head README read was truncated before the Docker section. The README text is therefore confirmed only by the supplied summary. This does not change the verdict, because the issue requires no README change. No unrelated change appears in the supplied evidence.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
No eligible functions found in the changed files. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)
Full details: Security Check
Explanation
The pull request changes only the Docker base image, Dependabot configuration, and Docker documentation. The Dockerfile still runs the release image as the non-root node user, and the changes introduce no shell interpolation, credential handling, network exposure, unsafe permissions, or application input-processing code. The new Node.js 24 Alpine base image is a security upgrade, while the Dependabot rule schedules Docker updates and limits ignored updates to Node.js major versions.

Explanation
The Major Functional Correctness review comment was engaged. The discussion is resolved, and the contributor replied that the requested Dependabot prefix change was addressed in commit d59619. The current review also reports zero actionable findings.
