Public IFC sample models, sorted by IFC version.
IFC is the open file format for building and infrastructure models. To test software, teach, or try an information requirement, you need example models, and you need to know which version of IFC each one is. Public samples are spread over many repositories and research archives, often with no version stated and no clear terms. This repository puts them in one place, by version.
| Folder | Version | Files here | Linked |
|---|---|---|---|
| IFC2x3 | IFC 2x3 | 11 | 7 |
| IFC4 | IFC 4 | 15 | 7 |
| IFC4x3 | IFC 4.3 | 13 | 5 |
| IFC5 | IFC 5 (in development) | 0 | 12 |
Each folder has a page that lists its files, where they come from, and links to more models of that version.
- Files here are copied unchanged from a publisher that allows it under a named licence. The licence and the credit are in a
SOURCE.mdfile beside the files. - Linked models stay with their publisher. They are listed with a direct link and the terms the publisher states.
SOURCES.md lists all 35 sources surveyed, with file counts per version and the terms of each. manifest.json gives the size, SHA-256 and origin of every file copied here.
By the file, not by the folder or the name it had at the source. Every .ifc file states its schema in a header line such as FILE_SCHEMA(('IFC4'));. Files are sorted by that line. IFC 5 files are JSON and state ifcx_alpha.
This matters most for IFC 4.3. Many public "4.3" files are release candidates or earlier editions, and the IFC4x3 page shows how to tell them apart.
- Not our models. BIMvoice did not make these models. Each belongs to its publisher or author, who is named beside it. This repository is not affiliated with or endorsed by buildingSMART International or any other publisher listed.
- Licences. A file is copied here only when its publisher states a licence that allows redistribution. The licence shown is the one the publisher stated on 12 October 2026. Publishers change their terms: the publisher's own page is the authority, not this one. Where the terms are "None stated", all rights stay with the owner, and you should ask the owner before you reuse the file.
- No warranty. The models are provided as they are, with no guarantee that they are correct, complete, valid against the IFC standard, or fit for any purpose. Many are teaching or test models. Do not use them as a basis for design, construction, cost or safety decisions.
- Not certification. A model listed here has not been certified or validated by us. The only check made is reading the schema line in the header.
- Personal data. IFC files record the author and software that wrote them. Some files here carry a first name, a user name or an e-mail address in that header, as their publisher released them. Check before you redistribute.
- Links. Linked files are outside our control and may move, change or disappear.
- Not legal advice. The notes on terms are our reading of what each publisher says.
If you own a file that is copied or linked here and want it removed, corrected or credited differently, open an issue and it will be removed without argument.
If a link is dead, a version is wrong, or you publish samples that belong here, open an issue as well.
- IFC 4.3 buildings from real projects. The openly licensed 4.3 files are small teaching scenes and three office archetypes.
- IFC 5. One publisher, all alpha, no licence stated.
- Models from public owners. None were found that can be downloaded without a form or an account.
The text and tables of this repository are under CC BY 4.0. The model files are not ours and keep the licence their publisher gave them, shown in the SOURCE.md beside them.
